The Harvest
Matthew 9: 37-38
When he looked out over the crowds his heart broke. So confused and aimless were they, like sheep with no shepherd. “What a huge harvest!” he said to his disciples. “How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!” (From The Message by Peterson.)

I had struggled several times in my attempts to depict the “harvest” as described by Jesus when he saw all the people without purpose in their lives. I used the greens, reds, and yellows to represent harvest times in the fields. The brightness of the design coupled with the free flowing lines is designed to represent a plentiful harvest! There are paths through the design for the harvest workers. And who are they? You and me! In Isaiah 6:8 it is written, Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” If the Lord were to call upon you today, how would you answer? Would you be like Isaiah and say, “send me, Lord, send me!” Well, the truth is God has called us. Remember reading from the Gospel of Matthew in your Bible the following? “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:19)
Everyday we are in the marketplace either working or participating in some form, such as a consumer, worker, student, or just an observer. Time and again we are called upon to witness for the Lord. But, do we answer the call? Two of my friends and I were on our way to a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event. We stopped for dinner at a Bob Evans restaurant. One of my friends said to the server, “we are going to pray, would you like to join us?” She said yes! We prayed together. After the prayer concluded the server smiled and said, “Thank you. It’s been a tough day and I needed prayer.” What a wonderful blessing this was for all of us!
As a disciple of Jesus we must be on watch for these opportunities. Each morning, in your first prayer of the day, ask the Lord to make sure you find those who he has chosen for you to disciple today. Be ever alert! Believe me he will put people in front of you!
