Crown of Thorns

Mark 15:17

Crown of Thorns

I can remember reading about the trial of Jesus in a Sunday School class. The teacher emphasized the beatings and subsequent death on the cross. It made quite an impression on me as a young boy. In this design the royal blue and purple colors represent royalty and the gray and black represent the darkness of the deed, the slaying of the Lamb of God. The shape of the design represents the crown of thorns placed on His head, which according to most accounts was a round circle placed on His head around the temples.

In Matthew 27:28-31 it is written; They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews?” they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

He suffered for us. I used to speak of believers and non-believers. Then a friend of mine said there were believers and pre-believers. The people written about in Matthew knelt before Jesus and mocked him. Well, someday, they, like everyone else will be on their knees in front of the Lord. It is written in Philippians 2:10; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth. And, as Jesus said in John 14:6; Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

In our “politically correct” country we are not supposed to take a strong position for Jesus. People can get upset if we tell them the only way to the Father is through Jesus. I even had a pastor tell me once that he believed there were many ways to get into heaven. I totally disagree with him. Jesus is the only way. And, as Christians in the marketplace it is about time we stand tall and let people know about Jesus! After all, by sharing this truth we just might help someone attain eternal life.
